PhD position in Geomicrobiology – Dijon

Subject : Seeking a PhD student in Geomicrobiology

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to share a new opportunity in the Biogeosciences Laboratory of the University of Bourgogne for a PhD position in Geomicrobiology. The topic of thesis is :

The role of cyanobacteria in carbonate precipitation

The objective of this project is characterizing and understanding the role of extracellular organic matter (EPS and LMWOC) produced by cyanobacteria and its role in carbonate precipitation. The work involves laboratory experiments and fieldwork on microbialites. Central to the project is an investigation of carbonate precipitation by several strains of cyanobacterial with different morphology, growth rate and quantity and quality of EPS produced.

The potential candidate should have experience in: microbiology, biochemistry, geochemistry, microscopy and spectroscopy. A fundamental understanding in geology (i.e., mineralogy, stratigraphy, geochemistry) is required. Specific experience in research of bio- and organomineralization is welcome. Extensive experience in the laboratory work is prerequisite. Experience in fieldwork is preferred.
